Lutron's Caseta in-wall dimmer switches are smart, app-enabled light switches that can add a lot of intelligence to your in-home lighting. Click through to see what they're capable of.

Hands-on installation

Smart switches require a more hands-on installation than a lot of smart home gadgets, but with Lutron, it's a pretty painless process.

Not too tricky

Each switch requires you to connect just three wires -- line, load, and ground. Just make sure to flip the power off at the breaker first and you'll be fine.

Lutron Bridge

Once your switches are installed, you'll need to plug the Lutron Bridge into your router via Ethernet cable.

Wired up

We'd like it more if that Bridge was able to communicate with your router wirelessly.

Tap to connect

With switches and Bridge installed, you'll need to download the Lutron app to your Android or iOS device. The app will walk you through the pairing process -- really, you'll just need to hold a button down on each switch when the app tells you to.

In the app

Lutron's app is well-organized and easy to use, and even lets you customize the way things look.

Zoning things off

After adding each switch to the app's control, you'll be able to group things by room or by zone, then turn everything on and off all at once.

Extra features

Additional features like geofencing and "Smart Away" do a lot to separate Lutron from the competition.

Apple integration

Lutron's switches are Apple HomeKit-enabled, which means you can also control them using Apple's "Home" app on your iOS device, or by using Control Center shortcuts on your iPhone. There's also an Apple Watch app you can download.

Siri controls

HomeKit lets you control the lights using Siri commands, too.

Alexa, too

Lutron's gear works with Alexa, too, so you can ask Amazon's virtual assistant to shut the lights off, as well.

Design-friendly

Lutron switches are standard-sized, come in a variety of colors and tones, and can be used in multiple-switch gangboxes alongside other switches and outlets, as shown above.

Pico remotes

You can also add additional "Pico" remotes to your setup. If you add in Lutron's Serena smart shades or a Sonos music system, there are Pico remotes that'll control those, too.

The price

A two-switch Lutron Caseta In-Wall Wireless Dimming starter kit costs about $190, though you'll often find it marked down. Additional switches cost about $60 each. Read our full review to see whether or not we think they're worth saving up for.
