Lumigon T1 Android phone is a universal remote too

Forget Finnish-made Symbian phones with super-powered cameras, there's a new Scandinavian mobile in town, and it's armed with Android. The Lumigon T1 is a high-class smart phone with uptown features such as a Bang & Olufsen MobileSound3 chip and the ability to control your home cinema system.

Launched yesterday, the Lumigon T1 has a Freescale 1GHz MX515 processor, 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 480x800-pixel resolution, up to 32GB of memory with a microSD slot, and a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. It should be Android 2.2 Froyo-ed up, and come with its own smart-looking Android user interface skin.

There are also couple of neat-sounding features we haven't seen in other phones. The T1 can be used as a universal remote control, which Lumigon says allows you to control a "great variety of electrical appliances". This is helped by a built-in learning function, which can memorise a command from "virtually any device". We would love to see this work in practice, potentially great for annoying your other half when you surreptitiously change channels during The X-Factor.

It should also have some cracking sound for a mobile phone, with purveyor of very expensive electronics Bang & Olufsen's MobileSound'mini audio processor for mobile phones. There's also HDMI capability if you stick the T1 in an optional dock, allowing you to watch movies and use the Internet on a bigger screen.

But it's not the specs that pique our interest, but rather the sleek and stylish look of the mobile. Lumigon chief Lars Gravesen describes the phone as you might a piece of Ikea furniture when he said, "T1 is built on Scandinavian craftsmanship and design, coupled with the finest materials such as steel, aluminium and scratch-free glass." 

If we're lucky, the Lumigon T1 will reach us early next year. The more we hear about this phone, the more we drool, but we'll only know for sure once we have our hands on one. Late next year you should also expect a sister phone, the Lumigon S1, a touchscreen slider with (oddly) an old-fashioned T9 keypad.
