LG made several announcements at Mobile World Congress 2009, including the introduction of the high-end LG Arena multimedia phone. As a result, the LG booth had a constant stream of visitors.

LG Arena

The LG Arena was the shining star of LG's booth and the company's big announcement of GSMA Mobile World Congress 2009. The Arena will be LG's flagship model of year.

LG Arena

The LG Arena marks the debut of the company's S-Class 3D user interface. It centers on a cube layout where you program all four sides to include shortcuts for your favorite applications. You can then rotate the cube with just a swipe of your finger.

LG Arena

There are also tricks to the user interface. First, LG offers something called Elastic Lists, where you can touch any cataloged or listed item, like a contact, and the Arena will blow up that item so you can view and edit more information right on the spot, rather than having to open up another screen.

In addition, there's something called Reel Scrolling. This places menu items on a film-like reel and you can then just drag your finger across it until you get your desired point. Overall, we found the S-Class user interface to be very cool and flashy. It worked well and the Arena was very responsive, but there will be a little bit of a learning curve with this one.

LG-GM730

At GSMA 2009, LG announced that it would make Windows Mobile the primary operating system for its smartphones. The company also plans to increase the number of Windows phones available in 2009 tenfold and will bring up to 26 new devices in 2012 alone. To get things started, the company introduced the LG-GM730 smartphone at the show.

LG-GM730

The LG-GM730 will run Windows Mobile 6.1, though the company plans to release a version running Windows Mobile 6.5 during the second half of 2009. Like the Arena, the smartphone will have LG's S-Class user interface.

LG-GM730

We don't know much else about the LG-GM730. We do know that the smartphone will have Internet Explorer Mobile 6.0 and is 0.46-inch thick. LG plans to announce more specifications soon and hopefully some news about a North American release.
