LG's Android-based Optimus Pad is an 8.9-inch tablet with a dual-core processor and a 3D camera system. Feast your peepers on some photos.

At Mobile World CongressSamsung, Motorola and BlackBerry all saw fit to shove tablets down our throats. Not one to be left out, LG has kindly given us the Optimus Pad, a dual-core tablet running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, with a 3D camera system thrown in for good measure.

Rumours of the Optimus Pad arose towards the end of last year. It turns out that the wise old sages who speculated on the specs were pretty much on the money. The Optimus Pad sports a 1,280x768-pixel, 8.9-inch display, which, according to LG, offers the perfect compromise between size and portability.

The Optimus Pad packs Nvidia's Tegra 2 dual-core CPU for some serious processing power. With that kind of grunt behind it, the Optimus Pad should have no trouble running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, laughing in the face of multitasking and insulting the family members of 1080p video.

The Optimus Pad also packs dual 5-megapixel cameras on the back, for capturing 3D images. That's all very well, but the Pad doesn't actually have a 3D-capable screen, so you can only view your 3D images after hooking your Pad up to a 3D TV. This feature will also surely add a fair chunk of extra cash to the device's asking price. On the front of the Pad, you'll find a 2-megapixel camera for video conferencing with Google Talk.

There's no word on pricing yet but we don't expect the Pad will come cheap. If brutal processing power and 3D photos are your thing, start saving now, as this plucky fellow should be available sometime in March.

The Optimus Pad sits pleasingly in this person's hand. It will probably do the same in yours.

This time, the Pad is being held in landscape mode. Blimey!
