Laser-guided shaving, the Wi-Fi barista, and more crazy gadgets from Philips (pictures)
A laser-guided beard trimmer, iPad mixing decks, and a Wi-Fi coffee machine make Philips one of the wackiest companies at IFA 2013.
BERLIN -- Philips thought outside of the box at IFA 2013 with a selection of weird and wonderful gadgetry, including a coffee machine that takes your order over Wi-Fi, an iPad mixing deck designed by a superstar DJ, and a laser-guided beard trimmer for the finest facial furniture.
Ravey-davey choonmeister Armin van Buuren helped Philips design the M1x-DJ, an mixing deck with two turntables controlled by your iPad.
Love a drop o' joe but sick of the baristas spelling your name "Subhggsjif"? This Wi-Fi-connected coffee machine can curb your caffeine cravings. Load it with the ingredients of a range of hot beverages, and then you can use the iPad app to select whatever cuppa takes your fancy and have it served up steaming hot before you can say "What does venti even mean?"
When is a 2-channel surround system not a 2-channel sound system?
When it's a 4-channel surround system, of course. The Fidelio E5 wireless speaker system consists of two tower speakers...
...that lovingly give birth to two smaller speakers that can be repositioned for surround sound. The speakers know whether they're stacked together or broken apart, and adjust their output accordingly.
They wobble but they don't fall down: these distinctive Fidelio speakers now come in white, with Spotify Connect.
New Philips Fidelio speakers are among the first to boast Spotify Connect, which allows you to move seamlessly from listening on your phone or tablet to your home hi-fi system.
The distinctive Philips Fidelio Primo docking speaker with AirPlay now has a Lightning connector for recent iPads and iPhones, and Spotify Connect.
Treat your ears with the new Fidelio over-ear headphones.
The Fidelio wireless over-ear headphones now talk to your phone, tablet, or wood-panelled music centre via Bluetooth 4.0.
Meet the future of hirsute pursuits: the dual-sided Philips Beard Trimmer 9000, complete with a laser guide for follicular perfection.
The laser pointer pops up from the head to marshal your facial hairs like some kind of beard-obsessed Cylon.
The Beard Trimmer 9000 cuts hair from a designer-stubbled 0.2mm to a shipwrecked lumberjack 7mm in length.
Measure twice, cut once, they say, and they're not wrong -- especially when it comes to beards. To avoid a facial furniture farrago, this app previews how you will look with different kinds of beard.
Behold the power of the beard! From milk-chinned naif to red-blooded, lady-confusing Viking in one easy step. +10 man points.
Join the dots with the D0t splash-proof rubberised wireless speakers.
