Kid-friendly video games for the entire family (photos)

The long-awaited tale of an updated Mickey Mouse, trapped in a land of paint and classic animation. It's a bit dark, but it's nothing older kids can't handle. It's also one of the best Disney games made in years.

Available for the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. This best-of collection brings all those classic board games like Clue, Twister, Mouse Trap, Yahtzee Hands Down, and the Game of Life to your television screen (making cleaning up the pieces a thing of the past).

Players have two modes in which they can play these classic games, the original or an updated remix version with new graphics and rules.

If you've bought a new Kinect for your Xbox 360, most of the games are already pretty kid-friendly. Kinectimals is the most charming, however: large, fluffy jungle cats are virtual pets you can play with across a variety of minigames and environments. Against your better judgement, you'll be won over.

Armed with beautiful graphics, charming music and a weird imagination, Nintendo's newest Kirby game is perfect for little kids because the main character never really dies. And yet, Kirby still has plenty of eye-popping effects everyone can enjoy.

Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet is a multiplayer game that allows users to play as cute versions of their favorite Marvel superheroes in this puzzle-solving combat game.

Players can compete with a friend in story mode or have three friends join in for challenge mode. Available for the Nintendo Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS.

Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the classic real estate game, Monopoly Streets is a childhood favorite with a new twist. It still has the core mechanics of the original Monopoly, with new animations that make it look a lot like Google's Street View.

As with Family Game Night 3, Monopoly Street can be played locally and online and is available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii.

Sports Champions is somewhat reminiscent of Wii sports. Its contains multiple games, including Beach Volleyball, Archery, Table Tennis, Disc Golf, Bocce, and Gladiator Duel.

All these games require at least one PlayStation Move controller but two are be recommended for many of the games. Archery may be a bit tough for younger kids to fathom, but games such as Table Tennis are perfect for all ages.

The first Scribblenauts was great as a freeform interactive toy, not just a game: the sequel adds even more ridiculous items and situations to dream up. For creatively minded kids, this game's unmatched, as it teaches vocabulary, spelling, and critical thinking.

The uDraw game tablet (which includes uDraw Studio, an art program) is a Nintendo Wii exclusive that replaces the standard Wiimote with a pen tablet, letting players paint, draw or color anything from stick figures to the Mona Lisa. Additional games that work with the uDraw tablet include Pictionary, which is fun and a perfect match for the hardware, and Dood's Big Adventure, a ho-hum platform game.

Combining Lego and Harry Potter is like mixing chocolate and peanut butter for kids. The console game was a great idea, but the new iOS version costs less, is truly portable, and is nearly as much fun.
