BARCELONA, Spain -- Kazam is a brand-new name on the European phone scene: this is its very first Mobile World Congress. Here it announced its new flagship Tornado 2 phone, a 5.5-inch Full HD device with a beastly octa-core processor.
The Tornado 2 we saw wasn't running final software, but it should come with Android 4.2.
Its matte black back is reminiscent of the Google Nexus 5.
There's a 13-megapixel camera on the back -- an impressively high number, but with none of the extra processing that HTC or Samsung apply to their photo software, you're relying on pure Android to process your pics.
A 5-megapixel camera on the front is arguably more useful. This thing should be terrific for video calls.
Again, this is a prototype, so we can forgive little manufacturing faults like this gap. But as a new name on the scene, we'll be on the lookout for Kazam cutting corners on build quality.
Announced last week, this was our first chance to see the Thunder 2 in the flesh. This is the 4.5-inch model, which comes with 4G LTE.
It's running Android 4.3, on a middling 1.2GHz quad-core processor, with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.
There's an 8-megapixel camera.
This is the 5-inch Thunder 2, which has a slightly different spec to its little bro. It has a better 1,280x720-pixel HD screen, but no 4G.
Not every phone in each of Kazam's ranges look exactly the same. The Thunder 2 5.0 has a more Galaxy-ish look than the 4.5. Kazam says that's to cater for different tastes in different regions.
Down at the low end of Kazam's Android lineup is the Trooper 2 range. This is the 4-inch model, which has a weak 1.3GHz dual-core chip, a meagre 4GB storage and a modest 512MB of RAM.
The 6-inch version of the Trooper has the same spec. It comes in black and white -- Kazam's white phones tend to have a glossy Galaxy-ish look, while their black ones have a Nexus-esque matte finish.
