Just look at all of Amazon's new Alexa devices

Amazon told us to expect big news at a Sept. 27 event at its Seattle headquarters, and boy, its people weren't kidding. Click through to see all of the new Alexa devices and announcements they just threw at us.

Up first: a new, second-gen Amazon Echo. It's shorter and stouter than the original, and it offers a variety of interchangeable "shells" for the base, like the woodgrain one seen here. It also promises better sound quality and voice recognition than the original.

Like the Echo Dot, the new Echo can connect with external speakers via Bluetooth or aux out jack. The original Echo couldn't do that.

One big difference -- the new Echo will retail for $100 in the US. That's almost half of what the original cost.

But wait, there's more! Amazon also announced the Echo Plus. It looks just like the original, but features better sound and a built-in ZigBee radio that'll let it communicate directly with smart home devices like lights and locks that would have otherwise required a hub. For gadgets like those, the Echo Plus is the hub.

The Amazon Echo Plus comes in three colors, and will sell for $150. Each one comes with a free Philips Hue White smart bulb that you can screw in and connect with Alexa right out of the box.

Amazon also revealed that Alexa will soon be able to call specific phone numbers. The company also teased a new standalone Alexa speakerphone called the Echo Connect -- it'll cost $35.

Here's another new product: the Amazon Echo Spot (see it in this video). It's basically an Alexa alarm clock with a circular touchscreen display. The cost: $130.

It also comes in black, and offers a variety of different clock faces.

The Echo Spot brings a lot of the Amazon Echo Show's touchscreen trickery into a smaller, Echo Dot-like package. It can place video calls, for instance.

Speaking of the Echo Show, Amazon is now selling it in the UK and in Germany.

Amazon also showed us the newest version of its Fire TV streamer. It's much smaller than before, but still supports HDR10 and 4K video at 60 frames per second.

The cost? Seventy bucks (£70 in the UK, not available in Australia).

You can add $10 to that and bundle your Fire TV with an Amazon Echo Dot. You can use that Echo Dot to control the media that you're watching, including telling Alexa to fast-forward or change the channel.

Amazon didn't stop there -- it also announced new Echo Buttons that will pair with your Echo device over Bluetooth for improved gaming skills. You can use them as trivia buzzers, for instance, or play a color-matching memory game. They'll be available for the holidays in a $20 two-pack.

One other big announcement squeezed in today: BMW plans to bring Alexa into its vehicles by mid-2018. You'll be able to ask her to control your music, order a pizza or show you information on your car's heads-up display.
