My background includes an MFA in theater which I apply to thinking about immersive experiences of the future.

The $79 Gorillamobile Ori takes its inspiration from origami. Folded up, it's a regular folio-style iPad case.

The Ori's panels are metal sheets with flexible joints and flip-down parts. Here it's in a semi-elevated lap-typing-friendly orientation.

In fully extended "popcorn and movie" mode, the Ori's a tall monitor-stand, perfect for videos or monitor-style display. The iPad can swivel a full 360 degrees for portrait/landscape views, too.

The more affordable $49 Gorillamobile Yogi isn't a subway-friendly case, and it lacks a screen-protecting cover, but it's perfect as a superflexible stand. Or, for latching onto the back of your office cube.

The case works well flipped-over, too--the rubberized case and legs hold their positions on a table, like a tripod.

The twin segmented legs clip in either portrait or landscape orientations. It can be swapped without removing your iPad from the case.
