Installing the Amazon Key Home Kit
Here's the installation process for the Amazon Key smart lock and Amazon Cloud Cam security camera.
The Amazon Key Home Kit comes with a smart lock and an Amazon Cloud Cam security camera.
You can select from among eight different smart locks from Yale or Kwikset.
I chose the Yale Assure Smart Lock Touchscreen.
Make sure to get the Amazon Key editions of the lock and the Cloud Cam because they're slightly different than the regular models.
The indoor-only Amazon Cloud Cam won an Editors' Choice award in 2017.
You can either pay an installer through Amazon Home Services or install Amazon Key yourself.
The lock I got came with a new deadbolt, so that required a complete replacement of my existing deadbolt.
Download the Amazon Key app so you can access your lock and your Cloud Cam remotely.
If your door doesn't sit flush with your doorframe, you'll have to get it fixed. Otherwise, your door might not actually lock correctly every time (even if the app says it's locked).
The Amazon Cloud Cam goes inside and is either mounted to a wall or set on a spot that can easily see the front door.
The process is pretty straightforward, but consider hiring a professional if you have questions about the installation.
