Huawei Honor 7X goes big on the display

Huawei's latest Honor phone, the 7X, packs a huge screen and dual camera setup into this blue, metal body. 

It doesn't have the glitz and glamour of phones like the Samsung Galaxy S8, but it has a saving grace: a much lower price.

There's no official price as yet, but it's expected to be below £300 (the previous  Honor 6X  went on sale for £225). There's no word on when the phone will land in the US or Australia, but for reference, even an estimated £280 price converts to $369 and AU$485.

It's the display where the excitement lies. It measures 5.93-inches and has a 2,160 by 1,080-pixel resolution.

But it's the narrow bezels on all sides that make it stand out.

There's a fingerprint scanner on the back.

I like the blue metal.

The main camera has a 16-megapixel resolution. The second lens is a depth sensor, letting you shoot 'Portrait Mode' photos with DSLR-style depth of field.

The display dominates almost all of the front of the phone.

There's a Huawei-made Kirin 659 processor inside.

It runs Android Nougat software, with an update to the more recent Oreo due to arrive sometime early next year.

There's no waterproofing on this phone so keep it safely away from drinks.

It charges using the older Micro-USB standard, but at least there's still a headphone jack in place.

The blue stands out among a sea of black or silver smartphones.
