Bonnie Cha was a former chief correspondent for CNET Crave, covering every kind of tech toy imaginable (with a special obsession for robots and Star Wars-related stuff). When she's not scoping out stories, you can find her checking out live music or surfing in the chilly waters of Northern California.
The HTC Surround will be one of the first Windows Phone 7 smartphones to launch in the U.S. It will be available starting November 8, from AT&T for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

Design
The HTC Surround has a very sturdy design and is rather hefty at 5.8 ounces.

Speakers
Part of the reason for that extra weight is the built-in speakers. The tiny button at the top activates surround sound and though the audio sounded richer and fuller, we weren't impressed with the overall sound quality.

Kickstand
The HTC Surround offers a kickstand so you can place the phone on a desk and watch videos, listen to music, or whatever you please.

Picture quality
Unfortunately, picture quality wasn't the greatest. Though objects looked sharp, there was a bluish tint to the photo.
