Honda's production Clarity Fuel Cell on the test track (pictures)
Honda's Clarity Fuel Cell will be available for lease in 2016, but you can check it out a little early.
TOKYO -- This is Honda's 2016 Clarity Fuel Cell.
It's a mass-production ready version of the Japanese automaker's previous FCX Clarity.
The car is hydrogen-powered, an electric car that emits only water.
The car has about 175 horsepower, which isn't much, but it's more than enough to deliver adequate performance.
It's also quite comfortable on the inside.
Styling is...debatable. Aerodynamics winning over aesthetics, perhaps.
The entire fuel cell and powertrain is contained between the front wheels.
The battery pack fits beneath the front seats.
The hydrogen tank fills up the majority of the trunk, while a second tank fits under the rear seats.
The cutaway shows the fuel cell stack, which is positioned on top of the electric motor.
And the tanks situated behind the rear.
Honda's previous fuel cell stack is on the left, versus the new one on the right.
