Remember netbooks? Asus does, and is harking back to the days the Eee PC shook up the laptop industry with the new EeeBook X205, powered by Windows 8.1.
One big problem with the original netbooks was their cramped keyboards. Fortunately the new model is much roomier.
Even if the keyboard is a little more cramped than other laptops or PCs, it may still suit those who prefer a physical keyboard to the touchscreen of a tablet -- which is just as well, because here the touchscreen is conspicuous by its absence.
The EeeBook's screen measures 11.6-inches.
The EeeBook is 17.5mm thick and weighs 980g, more than a tablet but less than most laptops.
The EeeBook certainly beats tablets on the nunber of holes in it: unlike an iPad or most Android tablets you get two USB 2.0 ports...
...and a micro-HDMI port and microSD slot.
The Asus EeeBook X205 is set to go on sale in the last three months of 2014.
