Hands on with DJI's Phantom 4 Pro

DJI's new Phantom 4 Pro flies with a lot of fancy features. So, it's a good thing that that DJI added more obstacle avoidance system to make it crashing it much more difficult.

The 4 Pro is protected on almost all sides. It has front and rear visual sensors, infrared sensors on both sides, and a sensor on its belly to guard against landing on uneven ground.

The front and rear sensors are built into the drone's legs.

The side infrared sensors, meanwhile, are integrated into the 4 Pro's body.

Only the top of the drone is unprotected. So be careful when flying indoors.

But that's not to say you can't fly it indoors.

The camera has a 1-inch 20-megapixel sensor with 11.6 stops of dynamic range, aperture control (f2.8-f11) and a mechanical shutter.

The camera also boasts a maximum resolution of 4K at 60 frames per second with a very high bit rate of 100Mbps.

The indicator on the 4 Pro's back end will keep you appraised of the battery's strength.

No, that's not a phone attached to the controller. It's actually a bright display that's integrated just above the control sticks.

Two stubby antennas on the controller's back side send your commands to your drone.

The controller has an SD card slot, a USB port and a Mini-HDMI port.

With the new remote, you'll also be able to alternate your radio frequency between 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz.

Other features include better accuracy for flying through narrow environments and an enhanced Return-to-Home mode that will guide it home from up to 984 feet away (300 meters) while avoiding obstacles.
