Google shows off Maps at Google I/O 2013 (pictures)
Google announces its overhauled Maps at Google I/O 2013. It includes a new UI, immersive imagery, and has features built specifically according to user demands.
Google Maps get an overhaul at Google I/O 2013. The changes will be available for the desktop version as well as mobile apps for both Android and iOS devices.
Google says Maps is now "built for you." Users now can quickly search for places, right from the Maps interface. The new Maps gives you suggestions for places as you type in a keyword.
Or pinpoint the exact place when you type in more-specific information. Now Maps will also display rating information.
Speaking of ratings, you can quickly search for reviews of restaurants and other fun places in a city.
Street View now has a new interface.
You can also quickly find a landmark by typing its name.
3D flyby mode is now supported.
Tilt the mobile device to change the perspective.
With new support for public transit, it's now easier to navigate around a big city.
Now you can view public transit schedules...
...as well as see when the next bus or train will arrive.
Maps now also include bike lanes for cyclists.
Maps is now integrated with Google Earth...
...to offer a complete view of the planet in a single user interface.
