Garmin Nuvifone G60
The Garmin Nuvifone has been delayed time and time again, but it is now finally out with AT&T for $299.99 with contract.
First for Garmin
The Nuvifone G60 represents a first for Garmin. The company has been in the GPS industry for 20 years, but this is its first smartphone. The Linux-based device offers e-mail, calendar, and other features found on smartphones, but the functionality is really limited. The G60's navigation capabilities, however, are quite good.
Measurements
The Nuvifone G60 measures 4.4 inches tall by 2.3 inches wide by 0.5 inch thick and weighs 4.8 ounces, so it's not the most pocket-friendly device. Then again, you wouldn't want it too small since it doubles as an in-car GPS.
Screen
On front, you get a 3.5-inch, 65,000-color touch screen with a 272x480-pixel resolution. It's not the sharpest display we've seen, but maps, images and text are still readable.
Accelerometer issues
The display has a built-in accelerometer but during our testing period, there were numerous times when the screen wouldn't change orientation after we rotated the phone. It was particularly frustrating when using the device as a handheld navigator.
Top view
On top of the device, you'll find the power button and a 2.5-millimeter headphone jack.
Accessories
The Garmin Nuvifone G60 comes packaged with an AC adapter, a USB cable, reference material, and a vehicle mount (windshield and dash) but no car charger.
Camera
On the backside, you'll find the Garmin Nuvifone G60's 3.2-megapixel camera. While it can geotag photos, there aren't any other settings or options and it can't record video.
Picture quality
Picture quality could have been sharper and colors a bit brighter.
Memory
The Nuvifone G60 offers 2GB of user accessible storage and also has a microSD expansion slot.
