Christmas gift ideas for your fitness freak friends
Christmas in Australia means hot weather and lots of it. Summer is always a good time to kick off those fitness goals, so why not give the gift of encouragement this year?
Here's a wide selection of great fitness-rated gadgets for friends, family, or even yourself.
Sony Walkman NWZ-WS613
Just in case you didn't know, the Walkman brand is alive and kicking, and the WS613 is just one of the latest products to proudly bear the name.
Lightweight, waterproof and with both on-board storage and Bluetooth, the AU$199 device is set off by the 'ring remote' -- a clever gadget you wear on your index finger to control the unit with your thumb.
Jawbone Move
Jawbone's got a brand new trick. The new look Move takes the product back to a pedometer-style form factor, while still packing in all the functions you'd expect from the Up24.
The Move even comes with a wrist mount for sleeping (or if you just prefer wearing it that way). It's got a lithium battery, so there's no need to worry about fortnightly charging sessions. All that for just AU$69 makes it a 'my first fitness tracker' for your family.
It'll be joined by the Up3, which is for the far more fanatical fitness freak, but it sadly won't be available pre-Christmas.
Fitbit Charge
The Charge is, essentially, the new take on the poor old Force.
It's got a redesigned fastener to stop it flying off your wrist, plus automatic sleep tracking and a rather cool AU$150 tag.
The Charge HR will have heart-rate monitoring in the same package, but you'll be waiting until the new year for that bad boy.
Bose Freestyle
Smart-looking with the kind of audio quality you'd expect from the Bose name, the Freestyles are a comfortable earbud with a sporty-feel.
Water-resistant and with an armband in the box, these are a top pick for any running fans who take their music a little more seriously than most.
Jawbone Up24
It may be a year old, but the Up24 remains a great step- and sleep-tracker, with some killer fitness features.
Even better, with the Up3 on the way, the Up24 has dropped in price and you'll be able to pick it up for just AU$149.
Plantronics BackBeat Fit
Ridiculously comfortable, the BackBeat Fit are the best fitness Bluetooth headphones that Plantronics have made to date.
Lightweight with easy access controls and water-resistance for those sweaty workouts, the BackBeat Fit will set you back AU$159.
Garmin Forerunner 15
As far as running watches go, the Forerunner 15 from Garmin is one to beat.
A long battery life combines with heart-rate monitor compatibility and even some more fitness-related features (as opposed to exercise) with a pedometer built in.
You'll pay AU$180 for the watch by itself or AU$250 with a heart band included.
3SIXT Universal Arm Band
Arm bands for your phone are great if you like to keep connected when running or at the gym. There's usually just one problem: they're not built for big phones.
The 3SIXT universal band, on the other hand, can happily squeeze in a Note 4 and still strap on. For AU$20, it's a great stocking stuffer option.
