Biography: Peter began taking photos as a 16 year old, and had his first image published in Surfing World Magazine. Since then, he has worked for every major magazine and newspaper in Australia, as well as a range of international publications, such as Conde Naste Traveller and Forbes. Peter's experience in editorial and commercial photography has also seen him work with clients such as Qantas, AGL and the Seven Network.
Later on in his career, Peter has become a pioneer in the field of night photography, meticulously crafting each of his night images with a technique called light painting. Respected Australian photographer and writer Robert McFarlane has said of Peter: "by making the artistic choice to light each vista, Solness reinvents each scene before him, adding a dream-like nocturnal beauty to every photograph ... light doesn't reflect, so much as emit from each subject, in ways that are similar to Surrealist painters such as Paul Delvaux".
Peter is the author of Illuminated Landscape, a book documenting his night photography work from 2009-11.
His images are held in the public collections of the National Library Canberra, the Museum of Sydney, the State Library of NSW and the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery. Peter was the recipient of the inaugural NSW Parliamentary Plein Air Photographic Prize in 2010.
More of Peter's work can be viewed on his website. Peter conducts workshops in Sydney's Centennial Park teaching the art of night photography.
