Say hello to the Energizer Energy 500
LAS VEGAS -- Well-known for its batteries, Energizer showcased prototypes of its Hardcase series of smartphones during CES 2015. Though there are four altogether -- two feature, two smart -- with the highest-end being an Android 4.4 KitKat handset called the Energy 500.
Super rugged design
All of the devices sport a rugged, military design that is very durable.
Thick profile
Though thick, hefty, and heavy to hold, the 500 is dust- and waterproof enough to satisfy IP68 standards.
Plugging the ports
To keep water out, all the ports in the 500 must be securely sealed.
Shortcut camera button
On its edge sits a volume rocker and shortcut camera launch key.
Robust 3,000mAh battery inside
The 500 has a 3,000mAh battery that Energizer reps say last twice as long as the Apple iPhone 6.
The Energy 500 and smaller 400
The handset (left) also has a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek CPU, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 5-megapixel front camera. Energizer also has the more scaled-down 400 (right) phone. For more on CES 2015, read CNET's full coverage here.
