Electrolux holds its annual Design Lab competition to single out students with particularly impressive home appliance concepts. These prototypes won't show up in stores anytime soon, but the winner, to be announced on November 12 this year, will win some cash and an internship with Electrolux.
The Future Hunter-Gatherer was developed by Pan Wang.
This prototype is supposed to help you connect more with your food sources without actually having to go out and hunt or gather.
It starts out with a "virtual hunt," in which you select the food you'd like to eat.
The app then conveys your "order" to the market.
And your grocer will deliver the fish you snagged earlier to your front door.
Fulden Dehneli is the brains behind the Lotus.
The Lotus is an air-cleaning system that employs three mobile purification balls.
Each rechargeable ball performs a different task, but they are all designed to improve the air you breathe -- within a limited range.
The Odor Ball cuts down on smells, which might be good if you're cooking salmon for dinner.
The Pure Ball is an all-around air purifier.
And the Humid Ball, as you'd expect, acts as a humidifier.
Kovacs Apor created PETE.
The PETE would turn your old water bottles and other plastics into clothes.
Select the dress/shirt/pants you want to wear, add your plastic recyclables and voila -- instant outfit.
Loebardo Armenta's Pure Towel is another Electrolux Design Lab finalist.
This concept cleans and dries your towel in a flash after every use.
Okay, Pure Towel hits a little too close to home...
Sorina Rasteanu wants to put an end to your bad eating habits.
Her concept, Set to Mimic, relies on custom kitchenware and a gel patch that you wear on your head.
Even if you're eating a salad, Set to Mimic would trick you into thinking you're having a steak.
It's supposed to make you feel satisfied even if you're chowing down on a bowl of brussels sprouts. Yum?
Michal Pospiech designed something called UrbanCONE for this year's Design Lab.
UrbanCONEs are jellyfishlike gizmos that float around and clean the air.
