We've just been sent the Seashell 1005HA, which appears to be virtually identical to the Eee PC Seashell 1008HA, but for a couple of minor details. Honestly, keeping up with Asus' Eee PC family is like watching every episode of EastEnders simultaneously, with no sound, while riding a unicycle.
The 1005HA gets a copy of Windows 7 Starter Edition, a 250GB hard drive instead of its cousin's paltry 160GB disk, plus access to 500GB of digital online cargo space via Asus WebStorage. Crucially, you also get a removable 5800mAh battery instead of the built-in, 2,900mAh, lithium-polymer unit seen on the 1008HA. That makes the 1005HA a little less sleek, but it's user-replaceable and promises a whopping 10-hour battery life -- twice as long as its old man.
That, we believe, is where the differences stop. You get the same 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU plus 1GB of RAM, and while that's a bit lame, the 1005HA has a gorgeous chassis and display, a relatively comfortable keyboard, a multi-touch mouse trackpad and 802.11n Wi-Fi.
You can pick one of these up for around £260 now from your favourite online retailer, and probably the ones you're not so fond of as well.
