'Doctor Who' Lego projects shine through time (pictures)

Lego's Cuusoo site recently opened its arms to embrace "Doctor Who" projects. Check out some of the best of the Tardis and Time Lord crop.

Glowing Tardis console room

Since Lego opened up its Cuusoo site for fan-designed "Doctor Who" projects, a few dozen entries have arrived. This new-series console room was created by contributor CreatorBen. Some artful lighting makes the center column appear to glow. CreatorBen also built stylized versions of a Dalek, robot companion K-9, and Davros, the ruler of the Daleks.

"Doctor Who" projects are sprouting up all over Lego's Cuusoo site, and if they gather enough fan support, they could be considered for production. This console room was designed by Cuusoo user Bookshelf. The use of clear pieces adds a nice touch to the look of the set. The Matt Smith minifig sports a tiny bow tie.

Lego recently opened up its Cuusoo site for fan-submitted "Doctor Who" projects. A Doctor Who-and-companions set designed by user AndrewClark2 features some fun interpretations of what Weeping Angels, Cybermen, and Daleks would look like as Lego figures.

There have been many attempts to capture the Tardis in Lego form. This small version, created by user Bookshelf for the Lego Cuusoo site, is one interpretation of the iconic blue police box.

Bessie in bricks

Lego Cuusoo contributor bricknick digs into the "Doctor Who" archives for this brick-based Tardis and Bessie set. Bessie was the yellow car driven by the third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee, during his exile on Earth. Bricknick built a prototype of the convertible, adding a "Who1" license plate to the front.

Classic Tardis console room

Cuusoo user CreatorBen designed this Lego take on the classic Tom Baker-era Doctor Who Tardis console room, complete with the circular design that was so prominent in the original set. The particular set requires about 250 bricks to build. CreatorBen even includes a coat rack to hold the Doctor's hat and scarf.

'Doctor Who' minifigs

This Lego Cuusoo project from GlenBricker shows designs for several incarnations of the Doctor, including Tom Baker and Christopher Eccleston's versions. It also shows some of the companions from the new series and brings up the possibility of Lego jelly babies making an appearance. This is the first "Doctor Who" project to reach 10,000 supporters and go under review by Lego for possible production.

This Tardis console room project is one of many "Doctor Who" sets up for vote on Lego's fan-powered Cuusoo site. This set is particularly complex and depicts the console room as it looked during Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant's time as the Doctor. It currently has around 1,000 supporters, but would need a total of 10,000 to go under review by Lego for possible production.

The Fourth Doctor as a minifig

Lego Cuusoo user AndrewClark2's vision for Tom Baker's Doctor as a minifig includes a scarf printed onto the body of the toy. The minifig concept is shown here with a design for the Tardis console and the Doctor's dog robot companion K-9. This particular set has nearly 8,000 supporters who would like to see it made into an official Lego product.

The Lego Daleks are coming

This digital rendering shows Lego Cuusoo user AndrewClark2's idea for a "Doctor Who" versus the Daleks playset. This particular kit would require 220 parts to build. The Davros minifig is a particularly entertaining version of the Dalek ruler.

David Tennant as the 10th Doctor sports an impressive head of Lego hair and a sonic screwdriver in Cuusoo user flailx's version of a "Doctor Who" playset. The project also includes a design for a fold-out Tardis.

Creating the "Doctor Who" Tardis in Lego bricks is a challenge due to the vessel's nature of being larger on the inside than on the outside. Lego Cuusoo contributor flailx handles this by making the sides of the Tardis swing out to reveal the console room inside. This is one of many "Doctor Who"-themed projects currently vying for support on the site Lego Cuusoo, which gives builders a chance to see their concepts created.
