David LaChapelle shoots on the Nokia N8

David LaChapelle chose Sydney Harbour for the backdrop of his first public photo shoot. Or, Nokia chose LaChapelle as its star photographer to promote the photographic capabilities of the new N8 handset.

A DJ spun tunes for those who lined up to get their photo taken by LaChapelle.

LaChapelle is most well-known for his highly stylised portraits of celebrities. Here, he answers questions from the media about his approach to the shoot.

The set used for his Sydney shoot at Circular Quay reflected LaChapelle's surrealist style.

Studio lighting was on hand to illuminate the chosen few who lined up for hair and make-up before appearing before the N8's Carl Zeiss lens.

LaChapelle only used the N8 to take the photographs, though we did spy a Canon 5D Mark II in one of the kits lying around on set.
