D-Link's new PowerLine AV 500 DHP-501AV starter kit is good-looking and offers great performance.
The D-Link DHP-501AV PowerLine AV 500 Adapter Starter Kit includes two Powerline AV 500 adapters (model DHP-500AV). When used these two adapters create a single power-line network connection using the home's electrical wiring.
The DHP-500AV adapter has a snap-on design and is relatively compact. On the front a few status lights show the condition of the power, the power-line connection, and the connection to a client or network.
On the bottom it has a two-prong power connector, which works with more socket types but doesn't stay as firmly on the socket as a three-prong connector.
On the side the adapter has a Gigabit Ethernet port to hook up to either a network or an Ethernet-ready client. Next to the port are the recessed reset button and the quick security button for quickly creating a secure connection between adapters.
Though relatively compact, the DHP-500AV adapter, like many other snap-on power-line adapters, tends to obstruct the adjacent power sockets.
