Meet NextEV's Nio EP9.

It boasts more than 1,300 hp, and will hit 62 mph from rest in 2.7 seconds.

Think that's brisk? It'll do 0-124 mph in 7.1 seconds.

The EP9's top speed is the fun side of 190 mph as well.

It was developed from a fresh sheet of paper in less than two years.

So it went from nothing to...world record EV in less than 24 months.

The EP9 was run around the Nurburgring and it smashed the EV record, beating the track in a shade over 7 minutes 5 seconds.

Six will be produced, and they're all road legal.

But they cost $1.2 million to build and there's no retail price as they're all sold.

If there's sufficient interest, however, up to 200 can be made.

The EP9 is a gateway car -- it bridges the gap between NextEV's Formula E team and a mass-production road car, expected to be revealed in 2017.

The smaller, more realistic car is expected to go on sale in 2018.

The idea behind all of this was to make the world a little healthier, yet keep cars just as exciting as they've ever been.

And, come on, the EP9 is quite exciting.

Its design seems to take hints from all sorts of supercars...

There's hints of Jaguar, Koenigsegg, GT-R, Ford GT, NSX and even Zenos in there.

No bad thing, frankly.
