CES: Samsung's funky home theater designs (photos)
Samsung showed off several unique home theater designs at CES 2011, including a cubelike home-theater-in-a-box and an AV receiver with a built-in Blu-ray player.
Samsung HT-D7100: HTIB in a single cube
Samsung's HT-D7100 manages to fit an entire home- theater-in-a-box into a single cubic design. It's tough to believe, but there's an entire 2.1 audio system there--including a subwoofer--plus a built-in Blu-ray player.
Samsung HT-D7100: Taken apart
Although you can fit the HT-D7100 into a cube, it's also possible to take the different sections apart if you prefer a different configuration.
Samsung HT-D7100: Lifestyle photo
Samsung's lifestyle photo of the HT-D7100 looks great in concept, but you can't see all the wires. Remember that each component needs to be wired together, which detracts from the sleek design somewhat.
Samsung BD-D7000: Ultrasmall Blu-ray player
Blu-ray players keep getting smaller, but the BD-D7000 is by far the most compact standalone Blu-ray player design we've seen. The front panel also features touch-sensitive controls.
Samsung BD-D700: Slot-loading disc drive
When you want to eject or insert a disc, the top of the BD-D7000 pops up just slightly. It's slick-looking.
Samsung BD-D7000: Minimalist back panel
Because the design is so compact, many of the ports you'd find on other Blu-ray player are missing from the BD-D7000. Of course, for most home theaters the HDMI output and built-in Wi-Fi will be enough.
Samsung HW-D7000: AV receiver with built-in Blu-ray drive
We've seen an AV receiver with a built-in Blu-ray player from Denon before, but Samsung's is more stylish, thanks to its slot-loading disc drive that's almost invisible when not in use. The HW-D7000 has built-in Wi-Fi, too.
Samsung home theater system
Samsung didn't announce this at its press conference, but it has a unique design with skinny speakers. According to a Samsung representative, this model may not come out in the U.S.

Most of the electronics and components in this system are housed in the subwoofer.
Samsung BD-D7500: World's slimmest Blu-ray player
Not that we were clamoring for a thin Blu-ray player, but Samsung claims the BD-D7500 is the world's slimmest at 0.9 inches.
Samsung BD-D7500: Side angle
Although there's a big, disclike circle on the front of the play, the slot-loading disc drive is actually on the side.
Samsung BD-D7500: Very thin
Samsung's press photos didn't quite do the BD-D7500 justice. It's extremely thin and unlike some previous Samsung slim Blu-ray models, there's no extra baggage in the back.
Samsung BD-D6700
Even more conventional models like the BD-D6700 have an eye catching design.
