Similar to the G12

The G1 X's body design is quite similar to the G12's, though slightly bigger and heavier. While there's a lot to like in the camera's specs, especially the large sensor, the lens looks a bit disappointing; at f2.8 the aperture doesn't start out very wide, and it gets pretty narrow at a not-terribly-long focal length of f5.8. Plus, while that knurled ring around the lens looks like it'd be great for focusing or zooming, it's just there for show.

Full controls

Like the G12, the G1 X has dials within dials--in this case a mode dial circumscribed by an exposure-compensation dial--and hot shoe. The flash seems surprisingly small for such a large camera, though.

Back controls

The rear controls are basically the same as on the G12, though laid out differently, and it has a larger thumb rest and direct-record button for video capture.
