'Blade Runner 2049' trailer, dissected shot by shot

On Monday, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for "Blade Runner 2049," which hits theaters worldwide in October 2017.

"A replicant is like any other machine," says a voice-over. "They're either a benefit or a hazard. If they're a benefit, they're not my problem." Thirty years after the events of the first film, Ryan Gosling plays LAPD Officer K, a blade runner who unearths a long-buried secret that could plunge what's left of society into chaos.

This could be a statue left over from the Tyrell Corporation, whose company motto is "More human than human." Or perhaps this is just to set the mood that artificial humans are not to be underestimated?

Officer K's discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, a former LAPD Blade Runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Similar to J.F. Sebastian's expansive Bradbury Building, home for broken robots from the original "Blade Runner," this abandoned hotel makes for the perfect hideaway. But is this Deckard's home or just another pit stop on K's journey?

K's wardrobe looks a lot like Deckard's in the original "Blade Runner," which begs the question -- is there an official Blade Runner uniform?

Deckard sits at his piano in 1982's "Blade Runner" when he dreams of unicorns. Here, K plays a few notes in the new trailer.

"I did your job once. I was good at it," Deckard says while pointing his famous LAPD 2019 Blaster at K.

"Things were simpler then," K responds to Deckard. Which makes us wonder how bad things are 30 years later. Replicants must be running things or ruining them.

This shot of K walking through the city streets is reminiscent of the first scenes in the original "Blade Runner" when Deckard takes in Los Angeles before eating dinner at White Dragon Noodle Bar. "Blade Runner 2049" arrives in theaters on October 6, 2017.
