Better tasting beer? It's not rocket science, it's Fizzics (pictures)

Take a closer look at the countertop beer system, Fizzics, to see how it uses sound to transform your beer from a typical store bought bottle into a frothy delight.

Time for a drink

Fizzics aims to bring the bar to your living room. The $170 machine uses sound to transform your store bought bottles of beer into their fresh from the tap equivalents. Click through to see how it pulls off this cool trick.

Simple and attractive

Impressively, Fizzics doesn't use gas canisters, or kegs. It's a simple, battery-powered device that can easily fit on top of your counter.

Portable and easy to use

Since it's only 3.5 pounds (1.6kg), it's also portable.

Open sesame

To use it, flip up the latches to open the lid.

Hose fed

You'll find a hose on the bottom of that lid. Handily, each component piece of Fizzics can be removed and cleaned, including the hose and the lid, though the hose is the only part that regularly comes into contact with your beer.

Getting the bottle ready

Grab your bottle of beer and open it. Fizzics is also compatible with cans -- and even growlers up to 64 ounces.

In goes the beer

Place your bottle into Fizzics. Don't pour in your beer.

Insert the hose

Place the hose into the open container, then seal the lid.

Pull the handle and pour

Fizzics will pressurize your bottle and pour a gentle stream of beer into your glass, essentially decanting your drink.

A gentle stream of beer

The stream is digitally controlled and intended to keep the majority of the carbonation in the beer.

Push the handle for the foamy top

Once your beer is mostly full, release the handle, then push it away from you. The sound of the motor will intensify, and Fizzics will use sound to agitate the carbonation in the beer remaining in the bottle. Then, it'll shoot out that beer and top off your drink with a frothy head.

Namaste

We tried Fizzics on a number of beers, including the Dogfish Head Namaste. Namaste poured straight from the bottle is on the right; the Fizzics pour of Namaste is in the middle glass.

Easy to clean

When you're done pouring your beer, you can rinse out Fizzics by running a glass of warm water through the system. Again, for more thorough cleanings, you can remove the lid and the hose.

Surprising fun

Fizzics surprised me. It brings out the sweet flavors of your beer and adds an attractive, and creamy head, just from using sound. For $170, it's a fun gadget for anyone that wants to experiment with their favorite brewed beverage.
