Moto X for $199

One of the best deals so far is the 2014 Motorola Moto X 16GB phone, which is available off-contract for $199. Yes, it's a 2014 phone, but it's a step up from the new Moto G you'd get at the same price.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain for $40

One of the most best-reviewed games of 2015 is Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. It scored a 10/10 on our sister site, GameSpot. The long-awaited sequel features Kiefer Sutherland as the voice of its world-weary mercenary protagonist, Snake. As you can tell from the screenshot, it probably features lots of horseback riding, and phantom saddle sores too we surmise. The discounted version is available for both PS4 and Xbox One for $40 (33 percent off), and it's also available (undiscounted) for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Roku Smart TV for $180

If you buy a smart TV you can't be sure that in 12 months time it will still get updates, such as the latest and greatest streaming services. But if you buy a Roku set-top box you know you will.

TCL has combined the goodness of Roku box into its entry level 3800 series TV, and it's the favorite budget TV value of CNET's David Katzmaier.

Get the 32 inch for $180 or the 40-inch for $280.

Amazon Lightning cable for $6

Here at CNET we like AmazonBasics cables. They do the job and they're fairly durable. And if they do break, they're cheap enough that you don't mind paying for another.

Amazon says its Lightning Cable is Apple Certified, and at only $6 for 3 feet, it's also one of the cheapest we've seen.
