Microsoft Surface 3, $399 at Best Buy

Lots of great prices are tossed around for Black Friday computer deals, but often for low-end junk you won't be happy with at any price. There are, however, a few worth considering, especially in midrange systems.

The least-expensive Surface keeps the high-end design but pairs it with a smaller, lower-res screen and a basic Intel Atom processor. It's $100 off for Black Friday, but you'll still have to spring for the keyboard cover separately. Via Best Buy

Dell Inspiron 15 (15-inch, Core i3), $299 at Best Buy

This is Dell's standard plastic midsize laptop, with a low-res screen and an older-generation processor, but a definite step up from the entry-level Celeron processor models you usually find at this price. Via Best Buy

HP Spectre x360 (Core i7), $969 at Best Buy

HP's high-end hybrid is $200 off for Black Friday, and the configuration offered here has a fast Core i7 processor, making it one of the least expensive ways to get that top-of-the-line Intel processor in a hybrid. Via Best Buy

Apple MacBook Air (11-inch), $799 at Best Buy

This smaller Air is the least-expensive laptop Apple makes. It's usually $899, but Best Buy and others will have the current version for $799 for Black Friday. It's not the most useful MacBook, but it has its fans. Via Best Buy

Apple MacBook (12-inch), $1,149 at Best Buy

One of my favorite 2015 laptops, the slim, lightweight 12-inch MacBook isn't for everyone and is a hefty investment at $1,299. It's already $100 off now, and that discount climbs to $150 off by Black Friday. Via Best Buy

Acer CB3 Chromebook (11-inch), $99 at Best Buy

A decent basic Chromebook, running Google's Chrome OS, and designed for Web surfing and little else. These low-res, small screen models are usually under $200, now we've got one for just $99. Via Best Buy

Dell Inspiron 14 (14-inch, Intel Celeron), $149 at Dell

An online doorbuster from Dell, available at 6 p.m. ET on November 26. This low-end processor isn't all that satisfying in a bigger laptop like this, but the price is right. Best Buy has a similar system with a better Core i3 CPU for $299. Via Dell

Alienware 15, $1,199 at Dell

This is a very good price for a 15-inch Alienware laptop with a new 6th-gen Core i7 CPU and an Nvidia GeForce 970M graphics card. Normally, you'd pay this much for a slower GeForce 960M GPU. Via Dell

Toshiba Satellite C55 (15-inch, Core i7), $549 at Office Depot

Already on sale, with an extra $50 mail-in gift card offer for Black Friday, this is one of the least-expensive ways to get a fast Core i7 processor. Note that this system has a very low screen resolution, however. Via Office Depot

HP Pavilion 23-Q120 (23-inch, Core i3), $549 at Staples

One of HP's decent-looking touchscreen all-in-one desktops, with a lower-end Core i3 processor. Not a speed demon, but would make for a good kitchen or living room family computer. Via Staples

As always, credit to for gathering many of the sales flyers early.
