If you're in Sydney, there's a lot going on. Check out all the Australia Day events and find one that suits you! If you're anywhere else, you'll just have to make your own fun. Oh, the humanity.
Australian Citizenship Practice Test
AU$5.49
If you're looking to become a citizen of this great girt-by-sea country, you can cram for the test with this practice quiz. And if you were born here, you can play Aussie Trivia and see how many of your friends need to brush up on their patriotism.
TuneIn Radio
Free
Many radio stations like to put on a "best of Aussie rock" show for Australia day; with TuneIn Radio, you can pick the one of your choice, dock your phone and have the perfect soundtrack to your tomato sauce and meat pies.
Live Traffic NSW
Free
A lot of vehicles take to the road on Aussie Day so that we can get to bush or beach ... and, of course, this makes for problem traffic. If you're driving in NSW, this app from the RTA will keep you up to date with traffic information, live traffic cameras (so you can see for yourself), and includes a search function so you can see what's happening near you.
Trapster
Free
Trapster doesn't have the RTA stamp of officialness, but the warnings and reports are run by users for users — and it's a lot more comprehensive, too, including speed camera and police trap reports, speed limits, roadworks, accidents and more. And it can be used all over Australia, not just NSW.
Macquarie Aussie Slang Dictionary
AU$1.99
We have a pretty colourful vernacular down under, and if you know all the words and phrases in this app, we'll eat our (cork) hats.
Aussie Translator
Free
Macquarie isn't on Android yet — get with the times, Macquarie! — but Aussie Translator is a pretty good substitute, and it's 100 per cent cheaper. It's not entirely accurate all the time, but that at least is worth a few LOLs.
For Android
The Aussie BBQ
AU$19.99
This one isn't an app per se, but good BBQ apps on iOS are pretty few and far between. Ask the Butcher is pretty good for cooking meat in general, but if you want to specialise, a proper BBQ cookbook is the way to go. This one's pretty comprehensive, covering simple meat, fish and poultry all the way through to more exotic fare.
For iBooks
Grill-It!
AU$0.99
An Aussie Day barbie doesn't have to only be about sausages and roo chops. If you want to get a bit fancy-schmancy, this grilling app walks you through some fantastic gourmet barbecue ideas and techniques.
Big Day Out
Free
Heading to the biggest music festival of the year? Download this free app so you can keep track of the schedules and build your own so you don't miss your favourite acts, buy tickets, post your photos to Facebook and check out all the BDO news.
Beachsafe
Free
When it comes to our coastline, Australia really is the lucky country — we have free access to some of the best beaches in the world. Beachsafe lets you locate and "favourite" beaches near you, or find beaches to visit if you're on holidays — and it throws in some vitally important beach safety information to boot.
Weatherzone
Free
When it comes to lousy summers, this one has been pretty lousy on the louse scale. Don't get caught cooking snags in the rain — make sure you've planned ahead with a good weather app. For Android, we like Weatherzone, which has possibly more meteorological information than you'll ever need.
For Android
Pocket Weather AU
AU$1.99
...And for iTunes, our digital weatherperson of choice is Shiftyjelly's Pocket Weather AU.

We've made no secret of the fact that we're pretty impressed by some of the mobile games being developed in Australia. If you're going to buy a game for your phone, why not support our local devs?
