AT&T's deal-good Nokia Lumia 820 (pictures)

That $50 doesn't get you much for a smartphone, unless it's Nokia's Lumia 820.

Nokia Lumia 820's price reels you in

It's amazing how price is everything. For $50 with a new contract, the Nokia Lumia 820 is an absolute steal, a fairly high-end Windows Phone device sold as a budget smartphone.

Large screen

The 820 has a 4.3-inch display that can get both very bright, and sensitive enough to operate with your fingernail or gloved hand.

Camera action

This 8-megapixel lens offers some strong outdoor shots and HD video capture. A front-facing camera is ideal for video chats.

A little blocky

See the sharper edges on this very square device? I'm not a huge fan of the design, and even less enthused about this black case's slippery finish. However, it is acceptable; I've seen much worse.

Colorful cases

You wouldn't know it looking at this black body, but if you position your fingernails just right, you can peel off the back panel and swap in brighter colors -- red, white, yellow, or cyan.
