Apple opens its doors for world's first iPhone X sales

Queues stretched around the block outside the Apple store in Sydney, Australia, as the iPhone X went on sale.

Apple fans at the front of the line in Sydney were queuing for at least five days ahead of launch.

The queue outside Australia's flagship Apple store stretched around the corner and up two city blocks.

Having missed out on preorders, Bizhoy Behman, Josh Yacoub and Ahmad Rassa were the first three people through the doors at the Apple store after queuing for a week.

Having queued at the Sydney Apple store for each new iPhone for the past four years, 20-year-old software engineering student Mazen Kourouche was excited to get hands-on with the new iPhone X.

"I'm going to have to get used to no home button," he said.

Australian preorder customer Jesse Goodwin described the iPhone X as the "next chapter" for Apple fans.

"Other companies have implemented borderless screens, but this takes it to the next level," the 19-year-old student said.

Early customers weren't fazed about the notch in the top of the iPhone X display.

"It doesn't seem to be intruding," said one buyer.

The Apple Store in Beijing saw its first customer line up at 5 a.m. in the morning.

There appears to be more interest in the iPhone X from fans in China compared to the earlier iPhone 8 launch.

Lloyd Yu, 31, works at a startup and is getting two new 256GB iPhone X models in Space Grey. He also owns an iPhone 8 Plus.

A huge crowd has gathered outside the Apple Store in Shibuya, Tokyo.

Queue lines stretched as far as two streets!

Singapore's Apple Store is the only flagship store in Southeast Asia. It saw a massive crowd that comprised buyers coming from across the region this morning.

The first buyers here are two 22-year-old students who flew in from Bangkok, Thailand. The two friends said they made preorders online before coming here and queuing at six in the morning. The phones are for themselves and their parents.

33-year-old bank service manager, Wang Wei Hong, is a true iPhone fanatic who has owned every iPhone model released thus far. He was third in line at Singtel's iPhone 8 launch event in September, but this time, he made it first.

We arrived to find NYC's flagship store, "The Cube," under construction.

Told to walk around the block, we found a large line leading to a back entrance set up for today's sale.

For optimal press coverage they let us inside before they opened the store on the condition that we wouldn't shoot anything until doors opened.  I made my way upstairs to get a better shot of the action.
