Take a closer look at the Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iMT620, a portable speaker system for the iPod and iPhone.
The Altec Lansing inMotion Classic is a portable speaker system made for the Apple iPod and iPhone. Retailing for $149 and due out in fall of 2009, the inMotion Classic is a stylish solution for taking your tunes on the go.
Included with the inMotion Classic is a remote control, power adapter (not pictured), and two dock inserts made for the iPod Nano and iPod Touch or iPhone. The remote control includes buttons for volume, skip, play/pause, mute, source, power, expander effect, menu, and radio presets.
The front of the inMotion Classic includes a universal dock sandwiched between a pair of 3-inch speakers. A black-metal speaker grille covers the face, with the exception of the dock and a 2.5-inch plastic-covered LCD in the top right corner.
On the top edge of the inMotion Classic you'll find a row of large, inch-wide plastic buttons used to control functions such as power, audio source, volume, and track skip.
One of the inMotion Classic's most admirable features is its portability. It measures 6 inches high, 13 inches wide, and 2 inches thick (when folded).
Here's a side view of the inMotion Classic with the kickstand folded up.
With the kickstand out, the inMotion Classic's dramatic lean is accentuated by its deliberately angular design. The kickstand has a sturdy feel and rotates on hinges that lock the bar securely in one of three positions (down, back, or up).
Here's a shot of the inMotion Classic along with its remote control and dock inserts.
The back of the inMotion Classic includes a cubby slot where the remote control can be stored out of the way. The remote doesn't lock into the slot, however, so you'll need to keep an eye on it if you plan to toss the speaker into a backpack.
The upper right corner of the inMotion Classic's face includes a 2-inch LCD. The screen displays information such as volume, song title, playback mode, and radio station.
To improve FM radio reception, the inMotion Classic includes a folding radio antenna that telescopes out to a maximum length of 2 feet.
In addition to the remote control cubby, the back of the inMotion Classic includes a port for the included power adapter and an auxiliary input for routing an external audio source.
The inMotion Classic's integrated kickstand can be rotated 180 degrees to act as a handle. Rubber grips on the inside of the handle help to make the speaker comfortable to carry.
