The PS4 launches on November 15. Here's what you'll have the option to play on day one.

NBA 2K14

If this screenshot is anything to go by, NBA 2K14 will look fantastic on the PS4. It doesn't look "real" to me, but it does convey the dramatic leap in graphics capabilities we can expect from this forthcoming generation of game consoles.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Ghosts promises to be more of the same Call of Duty most of us have loved or continue to love, but that's not such a bad thing.

OK, sure, they've added dogs, female characters in multiplayer, a new learning ability, and destructible environments, but make no mistake, Ghosts is still -- by most accounts -- fundamentally, classic CoD gameplay with much prettier graphics and all the stuff previously mentioned.

Skylanders: Swap Force

Skylanders is huge with the kids, and I have to admit, though I've never played a Skylanders game and am well over kid age, I'm intrigued. If for nothing else to learn from the creative and marketing geniuses at Activision.

Need for Speed: Rivals

Another year, another Need for Speed game. From the looks of the new entry, the series appears to be getting back to its cops-versus-racers roots and that makes this fan of the original The Need for Speed (1994) -- yes, I'm that old -- very happy.

Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 looks absolutely stunning, but hopefully, the single-player storyline holds my interest longer than just a few levels -- hello, Battlefield 3! Of course, the actual appeal will be the huge, get-into-any-vehicle-and-cause-untold-levels-of-mayhem-with-63-other-players multiplayer.

Madden NFL 25

Madden 25?! So, Madden's now older than some of the people reading this? Awesome. Mortality categorically reminded of!

FIFA 14

EA is definitely dotting its i's and crossing its t's this year, by releasing both a football game (Madden 25) and a futball game at the PS4's launch. Whether you're an American or European sports fan, you'll likely be satisfied.

Killzone: Shadow Fall

I've yet to play a single level of any Killzone game, but that doesn't stop me from admiring its engine tech and character design over the years. It's always been a pretty franchise, but never all that popular. Hopefully, this latest version gives you more reasons to make a purchase.

Knack

Knack looks like a typical launch game/tech demo with a healthy degree on Ratchet and Clank's art style and humor thrown in. I'm hoping it's at least that.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

According to Ubisoft, we're getting a new Assassin's Creed every year. By having multiple teams work concurrently on each new title, this'll hopefully mean the franchise's quality won't suffer as we all come closer to eventually burning out on this series. I say that as a huge fan of this series. A two-year break might not be the worst idea. That said, my preorder is in! Come on, pirates!

Just Dance 2014

People love to dance. People also love playing video games. I say combine them! Oh, it's already been done a billion times before? Well, here's the latest iteration of a time-honored classic trope.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes

Lego games are cute and all, but are ultimately empty from a gameplay perspective. However, throwing Marvel Super Heroes into pretty much anything seems to be a winning recipe the last few years. As a fan of comic books, this captures my attention, but more-complex gameplay mechanics can't hurt, can it?

Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition

If you had a desire to try Injustice, but didn't want to deal with waiting for downloadable characters to be released, you're in luck. Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition is simply the original game with all downloadable characters included. Now if they could just explain how Harley Quinn versus Superman works.

Flower

That's a PS3 shot right there. I've not actually seen Flower running on the PS4. Actually, I've not seen Flower running on the PS3. Not in person at least. The concept has never really appealed to me. Or hasn't appealed to me as much as becoming Batman and beating up thugs does. Anyway, Flower.

Resogun

This indie title may be the PS4 game I'm the most excited about. Resogun looks to take the Defender concept and supercharge it with next-gen graphics. Even if that's all it is, that would be good enough for this old-timer.

Sound Shapes

Sound Shapes is a platformer that take the core tenets of the genre and adds a striking visual design and a groovy soundtrack that affords the player a bit of creative control. It looks like a combination of Super Meat Boy and Patapon. That can't be a bad thing.

Warframe

Warframe is multiplayer space ninja combat done well. I say "done well," because as cool as the concept of battling space ninjas is, it's the type of thing that could easily go awry. It doesn't here.

Super Motherload

I've not played Super Motherload. All I know is that it's a couch co-op digging game. Regardless of what it is, any game with the word "motherload" in it -- even if it's not spelled traditionally -- at the very least deserves my attention.

Contrast

A mesh of 2D and 3D platforming using a cool shadow mechanic, Contrast looks like the kind of launch title that will develop a loyal cult following, inspiring nostalgic but depressing notions years from now. At least it looks like that to me.

Angry Birds Star Wars

It's Angry Birds set in the Star Wars universe. I honestly don't feel I need to go further than that.

DC Universe Online

An MMO set in the DC universe, only you can't play as Batman or Superman. You can team up with them, which is almost as fun. Not really.

Backlight: Retribution

Blacklight: Retribution is a first-person shooter set in an urban environment. That's not terribly original, but with solid shooting mechanics and a free-to-play model, it may not have to be.

Trine 2: The Complete Story

Trine 2 is an action fantasy platforming puzzle game. I've gotten about 30 minutes into the PC version and some day intend to go back, as it's a beautiful, fun game. The Complete Story is the Director's Cut with an exclusive level from the Wii U version thrown in.
