Alexa? HomeKit? Google Home? These gizmos work with all three

The race to control the smart home is heating up, and voice assistants are in the drivers seats. The top three options? Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant.

More and more, we're seeing smart home gadgets hopping onto the voice control bandwagon as quickly as possible -- and some have even jumped on board with all three. Click through for a look at these voice-friendly overachievers.

Up first, Lutron. Its Caseta line of smart lighting products are all compatible with Alexa, Siri, and the Google Assistant, which lets you dim the lights up and down using simple voice commands. They also work with a number of other popular platforms and services, including Nest.

The in-wall dimmer switch shown here is one of our favorite smart home products, and won CNET's Editors' Choice award thanks to its wide array of features and reliable performance. 

Lutron also makes plug-in dimmers for your lamps. Just plug one in and plug a lamp in behind it, and you'll be able to dim it up and down using voice commands with Alexa, Siri, or the Google Assistant.

The key to all of it -- the in-wall dimmers, the plug-in switches -- is Lutron's Bridge. It plugs into your router and translates the proprietary Clear Connect signal used by Caseta devices into something your home network can understand. That makes everything accessible to Alexa and the Google Assistant, and the addition of Apple's HomeKit hardware brings Siri into play, too. The bridge can also control Lutron's line of smart window shades (if you can afford them, that is).

Philips Hue's color changing smart bulbs are another popular smart home option that work with all three major voice assistants -- Alexa, Siri, and the Google Assistant.

Just like with Lutron, the key to those connections is Philips' Bridge. It connects all of Philips Hue's lighting products to your router, and makes them all accessible to your voice assistant of choice. The cheapest way to get it? This $70 Philips Hue White Starter Kit. The two bulbs it comes with don't change colors, but you can add color-changing bulbs to your setup a la carte if you so desire.

In fact, you can add any of Hue's products to your setup and enjoy voice-activated color-changes. That includes Philips' color-changing light strips, or the kid-friendly, battery-powered Philips Hue Go, shown here.

Among smart locks, your best-connected option is August. Clamp it over top of your existing deadbolt and add the August Connect Wi-Fi gateway accessory, and you'll be able to tell Alexa, Siri, or the Google Assistant to lock and unlock your door.

iDevices is another brand that hits the voice activation trifecta. At launch, its line of smart switches, smart plugs, and smart outlets like the one seen here worked with Apple HomeKit, and with Siri, but they soon added support for Alexa, and most recently, the Google Assistant, too.

The most popular iDevice product is its flagship smart switch. Plug it in and plug something else into it, and you'll be able to tell Alexa, Siri, or the Google Assistant to turn that thing on and off whenever you like.

iDevices also makes an outdoor version of its smart switch. It's a little bulky, but it'll let you automate an outdoor appliance or maybe some outdoor lighting, complete with voice control.

Now let's talk about some devices that promise to hit the trifecta of Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant compatibility in the months ahead. First, the Belkin WeMo line of smart switches and plugs. They already work with Alexa and Google to let you turn things on and off with your voice, but later in 2017, they'll add in HomeKit support.

That upcoming HomeKit support will extend to Belkin's smart light switches, too, including its newest release, the touch-sensitive WeMo Dimmer.

The key to it all? You guessed it, another "bridge." Pricing and availability is yet to be finalized, but Belkin tells us to expect it by this fall.

Nest and Ecobee are two of the best known names in the world of smart thermostats, but the Honeywell Lyric might actually the best connected. It already works with Alexa and Siri for voice-activated temperature changes, and Honeywell tells us that support for the Google Assistant is in the works, too. Other, dealer-installed Honeywell thermostats already work with Google, so there's good reason to think that they'll get there.

Lifx makes color-changing bulbs that need no hub -- a nice alternative to Philips Hue. Right now, Lifx gear works with Alexa and the Google Assistant, but Siri compatibility has long been in the works. Originally planned for February of 2017, the HomeKit upgrade is still yet to be seen, but Lifx assures us that it's coming. Most interesting of all, Lifx also says that there won't be an additional bridge required to bring Siri into play. Stay tuned.
