The AKG K 702 Open Back Dynamic Reference Headphones will set you back about $500, but the cushy design, pro touches, and excellent sound quality will make them a good investment for some.
The earpads of the K 702 headphones are quite large, with extrasoft velour-covered cushions. This, combined with the well-designed headband, makes them extra comfortable, even for extended wear.
AKG includes a 10-foot long cable that's removable--a good thing, as it makes it easier to replace. It attaches to any audio source via a standard 3.5mm jack, but the package also contains a gold-plated screw-on 6.3mm adapter.
The one thing missing from the box is a storage case or travel pouch of any kind. Considering the price of the headphones, we expected something of this type in order to protect them when not in use.
The AKG K 702 headphones really deliver on sound quality. Clarity is exceptional, and there's a superb balance of resolution and smoothness.
