Acer shows off Windows 8 desktops, tablets, and laptops

Acer has gone big on Windows 8, with laptops, desktops and tablets running the Microsoft OS.

His pride and joy is an Infocus projector, whose 80-inch picture elevates movie nights to a whole new level.

Looks like Acer is getting behind Windows 8 in a big way. It's taken to the Computex trade show in Taipei to unveil Windows 8-powered laptops, tablets and desktops, our sister CNET.com reports.

First, we have the two desktop models. The 27-inch Aspire 7600U is a touchscreen model, supporting up to 64-point simultaneous touch from all angles, meaning two people can use it at the same time. Great... or annoying, depending on who you're sharing with, like wrestling over a TV remote control. The 5600U is the 23-inch model. Both are designed to be wall-hung or used on a desk, with HD visuals and Dolby surround sound.

They'll be better suited to presentations rather than proper use though, if my experience of desktop touchscreens is anything to go by.

Acer's Windows 8 tablets are the 11.6-inch W700, and the 10.1-inch W510. The W700 has a Full HD screen and a cradle that allows multiple viewing angles, along with three USB 3.0 ports. The 510 can rotate 295 degrees, and comes with a detachable keyboard like the Asus Transformer Prime.

Acer also unveiled the Aspire S7 series, comprising a 13-incher and the company's first 11.6-inch ultrabook. There were minimal specs at time of writing, but they'll both have aluminium unibody construction and Full HD screens that fold back 180 degrees.

Windows 8 isn't expected until October, but it looks as though the number of supported devices is growing from a trickle to a flood. And we can only expect more as the launch date approaches. You can read all about the new features in the Release Preview in our test here. And you can snaffle a copy for yourself here.
