6-inch smartphones might not be anything new, but the Acer Liquid S2 stands out by shooting video in 4K resolution.
BERLIN -- We're checking out the latest tech from the IFA show in Germany where Acer has a new smartphone to tempt us. The Liquid S2 is a 6-inch goliath with a camera that can capture video in 4K resolution.
4K is a whopping resolution, but you'll need a display capable of playing it back. Only a few TVs support 4K -- or Ultra HD, as some call it -- and they're all massively expensive.
The S2's display is Full HD and has an impressive 368ppi pixel density. It looks bright and bold, too, but we'll reserve judgement for the full review.
Physically, it's quite a good-looking phone with its rubberised red back. With its 6-inch screen, though, it's quite the pocket-stretcher.
It bears the Dolby name, but don't expect the speakers to power your party.
The Liquid S2 goes on sale toward the end of October, but Acer hasn't yet said how much it's likely to cost.
It's fairly slim, even with its huge screen. You won't struggle to slide it into your pocket.
The camera has a 13-megapixel sensor for still images and can shoot Full HD resolution at a high frame rate for slow-motion playback.
If you're after a small phone for only the essentials, this really isn't going to be phone for you.
Touch-sensitive buttons beneath the screen deal with navigation.
Acer likes these swooping little design cues -- it uses similar patterns on its Liquid E2 phone.
