Acer press conference at Computex

On Monday, Acer showed off a slew of mobile devices during its Computex press conference in Taipei, Taiwan. The 2013 lineup includes an upgraded Aspire S7 Ultrabook powered by the latest Intel Haswell processor, the Windows-based Iconia W3 tablet, and the Liquid S1 phablet. Common features among these products include a touchscreen function, as well as a "progressive design" that promises a seamless transition between touch and typing.

Jim Wong (right), president of Acer, watches a demonstration of the docking capability of the Iconia W3 tablet with a keyboard attachment. This not only makes it easier to carry the tablet and keyboard around, but also protects the fragile screen. According to Acer, the Iconia W3 is the first 8.1-inch tablet based on the Windows 8 operating system.

Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook

This is the latest version of the Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook, and it features Intel's Haswell processor. Other notable upgrades include an enhanced keyboard with better key travel and a 2,560x1,440-resolution display. The cover has also received Gorilla Glass 2 treatment, which gives this machine a glossy finish and scratch resistance.

Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook

Those with a tighter budget may consider the Aspire S3 Ultrabook. It comes with many of the features and design elements offered by the Aspire S7, but without the price premium. There's even an Nvidia GT 735M discrete graphics option unlike its higher-end counterpart, although this model is also bulkier and heavier.

Acer Liquid S1 phablet

The Acer Liquid S1 is the company's answer for the increasingly popular phablet market. While it has a quad-core processor and runs on the latest version of Android like most high-end phablets, the Liquid S1 sets itself apart with a customized Float UI. This allows users to open multiple windows running different apps to multitask, unlike standard Android devices.
