Acer Event

Acer dropped a bunch of new products at its press event today in NYC, with products ranging from high-end gaming systems, an enterprise-level Chromebook, a new smartphone and a range of health and fitness devices.

Let's get started with the Switch Alpha 12, a two-in-one laptop with a kickstand that includes a detachable keyboard.

Acer Switch Alpha 12

Acer tells us that this is the first fanless tablet powered by the Skylake Core I processor and a "closed-loop liquid system" that cools the computer before it overheats.

The keyboard is also detachable from the 12-inch screen, which ships as a free accessory with the system.

Acer Switch Alpha 12

You can use the touchscreen and the kickstand together when you have the Switch Alpha 12 in tablet mode, but Acer will also offer an optional Active Pen that features an insanely precise level of pressure that can track at 256 levels.

Acer Switch Alpha 12

The Acer Switch Alpha 12 will be available in June starting at $599 for the base model. A larger backlit keyboard will also be offered for an additional cost, although the company didn't specify the exact price.

Acer Predator 17X gaming notebook

Acer also announced the new Predator 17X gaming notebook that's compatible with virtual-reality headsets straight out of the box.

Specs include a a 17.3-inch G-SYNC panel display, Intel Core i7 processor, and Nvidia GTX 980 graphics.

Perhaps most interesting about this gaming rig is that it features a new triple-fan cooling array that can handle some serious overclocking.

The Predator 17X gaming notebooks will also drop in June starting at $2,799 with the option to customize and upgrade.

Acer Predator G1 gaming desktop

The Predator G1 gaming desktop is a behemoth that needed a suitcase with a handle to make it onto the keynote stage this morning.

If you're a diehard gamer, you'll appreciate its onboard support for virtual reality, as well as its robust internal components that include a sixth-generation Intel Core processor and up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM.

It also has a full-sized Nvidia GeForce GTX graphic card that's customizable up to Titan X.

Speaking of the suitcase, it wasn't all for the show: Acer also announced that the first 1,000 people to order a G1 desktop will get the custom-designed carrying case for free, making life a little easier for professional eSports gamers that travel a lot with their gear.

The Acer Predator G1 gaming desktop will hit stateside retailers in July with prices starting at $2,299.99, also with the option to upgrade.

Acer Predator Z1 Monitor

The new Predator Z1 curved monitors will also go on sale soon, with options available in 27 inches, 30 inches, and 31.5 inches.

Curved displays are getting increasingly popular with the gaming set for their perceived sense of depth, and the Z1s offer a wide viewing angle and an impressive field of view.

Specifically, the curved design allows for a 178-degree viewing angle that's free of blind spots for uninterrupted gameplay.

From a hardware perspective, you can also detach the included stand and mount the monitor on the wall.

The monitors will go on sale in June for prices starting at $599.99 for the smallest size.

Acer Chromebook 14 for Work

An extension of the Google Chrome for Work program, the Acer Chromebook 14 is super durable thanks to its Vibrant Corning Gorilla Glass casing that protects users with a scratch-resistant screen and a spill-resistant keyboard that can take up to 11 fluid ounces of liquid without skipping a beat.

Acer Chromebook 14 for Work

Designed for super easy deployment in an IT environment, the Chromebook 14 targets administrators that will utilize the laptops to deploy updates, configure apps, and more. It's powered by a sixth-gen Intel Core processor with a battery life that can last up to 12 hours before requiring a charge.

Acer Chromebook 14 for Work

Nighttime work on the Chromebook 14 is no problem thanks to the backlit keyboard option, while its 14-inch display is built into a narrow bezel that keeps the overall footprint small and easily transportable. The whole thing weighs about 3.2 pounds (1.45kg).

The Chromebook 15 for Work will hit resellers in May and will sell for $349 in the US.

Xplova X5 bike computer

The Xplova X5 combines a cycling computer along with an action-cam for first-person recording on the road.

Cyclists can record 3-second clips in 720p resolution using the wide angle camera based on details like speed, heart rate and GPS coordinates.

Xplova X5 bike computer

Another unique feature of the X5 is "Find Me" mode that automatically records your location and broadcasts it to your friends in real time, allowing you to compare speeds and even engage in a game of "Catch me if you can" on the bike.

Acer tells us the Xplova X5 will be available in the third quarter of this year, but we don't pricing details yet.

Acer Liquid Leap Fit

The Liquid Leap Fit builds on the design of the original Liquid Lap and the Leap Active fitness trackers, but this one has a heart monitor that stays on to keep you in check. Additionally, the Leap Fit makes strides in battery life, with the company claiming that it has the longest run time found on any smart band currently on the market. We'll be sure to test that claim for our full review, coming soon.

Like the previous models, the Liquid Leap Fit connects to the corresponding app from Acer that lets you track your movements and heart rate, set goals for increasing the difficulty of your workouts, and even remind you to take your medication or move around during periods of laziness.

The Acer Aspire R 15 lays flat at 180 degrees, while its diamond-cut edge allows it to maintain an impressively thin profile in both configurations.

It's available in a variety of configurations that include Intel CPUs with up to 12GB of available DDR4 memory, up to Nvidia 940MX graphics and a reversible USB 3.1 Type-C port.
