A super Super Bowl (photos)
Sunday's game was the most watched event in television history. CBS Chief Marketing Officer George Schweitzer was behind the scenes at the game.
Fry an egg on this
Here are several of the many satellite dishes that beam up the game (with plenty of backup).
CBS compound
The view from behind the stadium, with office and production facilities housed in giant trailers. Giant mobile units and control trucks that house all the sophisticated technical gear are nudged beside the stadium.
The teams arrive
Escorts led the way as the teams arrived just outside our compound to get to the stadium on game day.
The Saints arrive
Note that every one of them has some kind of digital music device. A few even had cameras taking pictures of all the photographers who were taking pictures of them!
Coach Peyton arrives
Sean Peyton walked in with a briefcase loaded with what turned out to be that aggressive winning game plan.
Peyton Manning comes to the office
It's the other Peyton. Note his briefcase as well!
Drew Brees has his playbook
What, no briefcase, Drew? He looked pretty relaxed.
Announcers Jim Nantz and Phil Simms
These guys are simply the best. Here they go through some final prep.
Here I am on the field
What can I say, it was a unique opportunity and I am thankful I have a job that takes me places like this!
Flyover
This is what I described in my blog post. I was only able to catch the last fighter in formation as it roared over the stadium.
Patch panel
OK digi-geeks, go crazy. You pull out one of these and the whole Super Bowl goes dark! Just an example of the patch panel under one of our control trucks.
Pregame control truck
This is where Producer Eric Mann (left) and Director Bob Matina (middle) run the show. Technical Director Jeff Ringel (right) is the master of the switches for every camera, tape machine, graphics display, and more. It's a four-hour production on game day.
Replay control
Here is one of many replay units where a director and producer grab specifically assigned shots: low angles, isolations on various players, wide shots, overhead shots, coach close-ups, you name it.
The Vince Lombardi Trophy
At the end of the rainbow is this: the Vince Lombardi Trophy. This is what everyone in the NFL plays for, starting in September and ending on a Sunday in February. I was only keeping it warm for a few minutes during the pregame. I did not smudge it at all.
