2020 Volkswagen Passat: Almost all-new

After Volkswagen is showed off the 2020 Passat at the Detroit Auto Show, it's finally time to hit the road.  

But don't expect an all-new Passat. This is more of a heavy refresh, with new styling but largely unchanged powertrain and technology.  

The most obvious change is an impressive new grille and slimmed-down LED headlights.  

17-inch wheels are standard, but you can opt for 18- or even 19-inch wheels.    

The roofline gets a steeper rake in back for 2020.  

New LED taillights are around back, along with new badging.  

The interior retains its spacious dimensions.  

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, good for 174 horsepower.   

The good news is that a new torque converter and tuning ups the torque from 184 to 207 pound-feet of twist for 2020.  

The 2020 Volkswagen Passat will hit dealerships in the summer of 2019.
