2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4: A more ferocious track monster

A new 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine and aero improvements make the 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 and even bigger standout on track.

The Porsche Cayman GT4 returns for the 2020 model year packing a new engine and aerodynamic improvements.

A newly developed 4.0-liter boxer six-cylinder tags in for the old 3.8-liter unit to make 414 hp and 309 pound-feet of torque. That's good for a 29 horsepower improvement, while torque remains the same.

In the GT4, the only transmission available is a six-speed manual that surely will please driving purists. It comes with an auto rev-matching feature that can be turned off.

Porsche says the 2020 Cayman GT4 can hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 188 mph.

Aero improvements come courtesy of new fascias, rear wing, functional rear diffuser, and underbody covers. Compared to the previous GT4, Porsche says the new model makes 50 percent more downforce.

Suspension bits such as the shock absorbers, control arms, ball joints and subframes are taken directly from the 911 GT3.

For track rats, the 2020 718 Cayman GT4 allows for the adjustable of toe, camber and antiroll bars.

While six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers clamping down on steel rotors come standard, customers can upgrade to carbon ceramic brakes for an additional $8,000.

When the 2020 718 Cayman GT4 arrives here in the US, it'll be available of three different seat options. Two-way sport seats come standard, while carbon fiber buckets can be equipped for an extra $5,900.

Dealers are accepting orders for the 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 now with deliveries expected to begin next spring. It starts at $99,200, not including $1,350 for destination.
