2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is a slickly styled family SUV

The 2019 Santa Fe sits on a new platform that is longer and wider, affording more space for occupants and gear inside.

Now entering its fourth generation, the Santa Fe has been the company's best-selling SUV in the US.

What you see here, though, is technically the replacement for the Santa Fe Sport.

The current car known as Hyundai Santa Fe, with its permanent third row, will be rebadged as Santa Fe XL. 

There are no changes to that model for the 2019 model year, above and beyond the badge.

Many active safety features will come standard beginning on the SE trim, and buyers can specify things like adaptive cruise with stop and go, high-beam assist, forward collision avoidance and a 360-degree camera system. 

An 8-inch touchscreen is available on upper trims, while lower-end models receive a 7-inch unit.

In either case, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration come standard.

You can also get a third row in the 2019 Santa Fe, but it's only available in conjunction with the diesel engine option.

Yes, that's right, Hyundai's 2019 Santa Fe will be available with a diesel.

Most shoppers will doubtlessly either select the base 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter gas four-cylinder or the punchier 2.0-liter gas turbo with an estimated 232 hp.

A hybrid powertrain is in development, but remains unconfirmed for our market, and it isn't likely to arrive until the model receives a midcycle refresh, so figure on a few years at least.

If you're wondering which light fixtures are the headlamps, they're the larger lower units. The slim, eyebrow-like uppers are daytime running lamps.

More unexpected safety features include a driver attention warning system, Rear Seat Occupant Alert and Safe Exit Assist, which temporarily prevents doors from being opened into traffic when the system detects that a wheeled object is approaching from behind.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but the model will go on sale in the US this summer.
