2018 Hyundai Azera: Returning to the US as the Grandeur?
With the Grandeur name trademarked in the US, Hyundai could be getting back into the large-sedan game.
Following the 2017 model year, Hyundai dropped the Azera from its US lineup due to slow sales.
In other markets, an all-new Azera was recently launched.
Depending on the market, Hyundai's large sedan is known as either the Azera or the Grandeur.
In the US, Hyundai has just trademarked the Grandeur name.
Hyundai locking up the Grandeur name could signal its return to the large-sedan segment.
The launch of the Genesis luxury brand saw Hyundai lose the Genesis sedan, which made the Sonata the flagship of the sedan lineup.
The new Azera/Grandeur is available with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or a range of V6 engines.
The 3.5-liter V6 works with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
For safety, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are available on the new Azera/Grandeur.
If the Grandeur does surface in the US, it would become Hyundai's new flagship sedan.
