Tax Day 2021: The best deals and discounts for filing your taxes

Never fear, late filers. We've got coupons from TurboTax, H&R Block and more just in time for Tax Day.

Heads up: Taxes are due on May 17 this year. If you're a last-minute filer, tax prep vendors have some deals to save you money, including free services, discounts, support for remote workers and even an Amazon gift card for referrals. 

If your income situation is relatively straightforward -- say, no capital gains or stock sales -- and you don't exceed the income limit ($72,000 this year), you may be eligible to file online and for free. Small business owners, freelancers, gig workers and the self-employed can file online through TurboTax for only $100 (save $20). Even better, active-duty service members and reservists can get their returns filed (both federal and state) completely free with TurboTax Online. Simply upload a military W-2 and verify your rank to qualify. This offer includes TurboTax Free Edition, Deluxe, Premier and Self-Employed filing products. (One caveat: This offer is not available to officers.)


TaxSlayer's Classic plan covers most tax situations and includes its W-2 import tool. Right now you can use code MUST to get 35% off all of its premium tax plans, with prices starting as low as $16.22 for a federal return. State filing is an additional $40 per state.

Jackson Hewitt

Jackson Hewitt online tax filing is a great option for digital nomads who've been working remotely across state lines during the pandemic. For a low price of $25, you can file a federal return online. Get unlimited state returns for only $24 extra.

H&R Block

Free tax filing has always been an option if you don't mind doing the paperwork, but H&R Block is making it even easier with its W-2 import tool. Simply take a pic of your W-2 with your phone and you're ready to start. The company has also made switching preparers effortless by importing your info from other tax filers.
