Forget arguing over who gets Mayfair in Monopoly, or fighting over the remote. Here's how you, your phone and a little imagination and knowledge from O2 and the NSPCC can create a family Christmas that's fun for everyone.
Get that countdown going with this fun app. Christmas Countdown 2017 (available for iPhone) lets your kids see just how many days, hours, minutes, seconds and even heartbeats are left until the big day arrives. Warning: may cause extreme excitement on Christmas Eve.
For just a £5 optional donation to the NSPCC, you can help make Christmas magical – both for your child and for those kids who aren't so fortunate. O2 and the NSPCC have teamed up with Santa to create beautiful, personalised letters from the man himself, with a choice of eight stories.
Mince pies, Christmas cake, chocolate logs, spicy biscuits…there's nothing quite like festive food to bring the family together. Get the children cooking up a storm with the BBC Good Food app. Easy-to-follow recipes include jolly marshmallow snowmen, edible name place biscuits and carrot muffins for Rudolph!
Here's a great way to keep the magic alive – a call from Santa himself, all the way from the North Pole (available for Android and iPhone). They won't believe their ears! Choose from 32 greetings and lots of messages, including reminders to keep up that good behaviour before the big day. (And don't forget: you can double-check what ratings for apps like these mean on the NSPCC phone safety site).
For the last 60 years, NORAD – the North American Aerospace Defense Command – has put its top-secret satellite technology to use tracking Santa's incredible journey around the globe on Christmas Eve. Follow his adventures and try to stay up for the moment he gets to your chimney! The app goes live on December 1 – just search on the App Store and Google Play for Norad Santa.
There's something so magical about kids singing Christmas carols – and something so satisfying about the entire family joining in! Check out the Christmas Piano with Songs app for carols and songs both traditional and new to sing and play along with.

Anyone for charades?
Here's a new twist on an old family favourite. Heads Up (available for Android and iPhone) challenges players to guess as many words as possible from a themed deck of charades cards based on their friends' clues – holding your phone up to your forehead replaces the traditional post-it note with the answer! Before you download, check out the NSPCC and O2's guide to playing games safely online.
Kids love messing around with photos, and there are plenty of apps which allow them to add a fabulous festive twist to pics. Christmas Photo Booth (available for Android and iPhone) has a great array of fun stickers and add-ons, from reindeer horns to Santa hats. Make sure that you've got all your in-app purchase controls set up, too, so that kids don't go overboard.
